Professional Staff
Rev.
Paige Getty, Minister
Paige has been minister
at UUCC since 2003.
Prior to UUCC, she was the interim minister at the Shawnee
Mission UU Church in Overland Park, Kansas.
Paige is a native of Savannah, Georgia.
She earned her bachelor's degree at
Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, and her
master's degree in Divinity from Harvard Divinity School.
After graduate school Paige completed
a ten-month internship at the First Unitarian Universalist Church
of San Diego and was ordained in September
2000. Following the internship, Paige and her
husband,
Graham, lived in Italy for six months living on
a very small organic farm in the hills above the Adriatic Sea.
Karen Scrivo, interim
Director of Lifespan Religious Education
Karen Lee
Scrivo is passionate about helping children and
youth explore their rich Unitarian Universalist
heritage and put their faith into words and
deeds.
A
Unitarian-Universalist for more than 18 years,
Karen has served as interim Director of
Religious Education and youth leader at the
Goodloe Unitarian Universalist Congregation in
Bowie, Md. She has also created
intergenerational services and children’s
chapel, co-led junior and senior high OWL
programs, and organized Coming of Age and social
action programs. Karen is also a trained
Montessori elementary teacher, who has taught in
private and public schools.
A
journalist most of her life, Karen has worked
for The Associated Press, United Press
International and National Journal as well as
newspapers, magazines, television and on-line
publications. She has also taught journalism to
college students and writing to elementary
school children and senior citizens. She holds
master’s degrees from George Washington
University (international affairs), American
University (communications), a bachelor’s degree
from Kent State University (journalism) and a
Montessori elementary teaching certificate from
the Institute of Advanced Montessori Studies at
the Barrie School in Silver Spring, Md.
Like many
Unitarian Universalists, Karen came to the
denomination from somewhere else. Raised
Catholic, she also attended Protestant revival
services with her maternal grandmother and
studied Eastern religions in high school and
college. A native of Pittsburgh who grew up in
northeastern Ohio, Karen now lives in Glenn
Dale, Maryland with her husband, Ken, and their
16-year-old son, Kelson.
Paula Linn, Director of
Administration and Communication
Paula
and her husband Jerry learned about the UU organization in
1990 when they became active in the UU Church of
Annapolis in order to provide their son Kevin a
religious education. She has been on
the administrative team (A-Team) for UUCC since
March 2004.
Paula finds her professional
background helps in her role on the A-Team.
She completed a master's degree in business
administration specializing in information
systems while working in St. Louis, Missouri.
After her 15-year career as a business systems
analyst and project leader, she began non-profit work as an
education advocate studying the education
system, training systems, and learning style
differences.
Tom Benjamin,
PhD., Music Director
Tom has been music director at UUCC since 1989.
In addition to having led music programs in UU
congregations for more than 35 years, Tom is a charter member of the UU
Musicians Network, he serves on its national
Board and various task groups, and serves as a mentor
to UU composers. He has written music
for, and guest-conducted at, dozens of UU
churches nationally.
Tom has received degrees from Bard,
Harvard, Brandeis and Eastman. He has composed
works for all media, including symphonies,
concertos, oratorios, cantatas, six operas and
much choral and chamber music. Over 60 of his
works have been commercially published and
several are commercially recorded. He is author
of two books on counterpoint, and is co-author of three music theory
texts. He has won prizes in a wide
variety of composition contests here and abroad
and has received numerous awards, grants and
commissions. Also active as a clarinetist and
choral conductor, Dr. Benjamin taught for many
years at the National Music Camp (Interlochen),
the University of Houston School of Music, and
has just retired from teaching theory and
composition at the Peabody Conservatory of the
Johns Hopkins University, where he chaired the
Department of Music Theory.
Michael Adcock,
DMA, Pianist and Associate Music Director
Michael is a native of
Virginia. He received his musical training at the Oberlin
Conservatory and the Peabody Conservatory of
Music, where he earned a master's, artist
diploma and doctorate in Piano Performance. As
winner of the 1998 Lili Boulanger Memorial
Award, Dr. Adcock has cultivated a versatile
career as both soloist and frequent chamber
music collaborator. He has won many awards,
including prizes in the Washington International
Piano Competition, and Kosciuscko Chopin
Competitions of Chicago and New York. Dr. Adcock
made his Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1998. In
the summers, Dr. Adcock is on the artist roster
of the Musicorda (MA), and Sarasota (FL) music
festivals. A faculty member of the Washington
Conservatory of Music since 2002, Dr. Adcock
makes his home in Washington, DC.

Pat Fort, Bookkeeper
Pat Fort has been a lifelong UU.
She was born in Texas, grew up in Missouri
attending All Souls Unitarian Church in Kansas
City, but has made her home in Columbia and been
an active member of UUCC since 1981. She and her
husband, Peter, have two grown daughters, both
graduates of the UUCC Religious Education
program. Pat has had several careers: as an
elementary school teacher, as administrator of a
small non-profit organization promoting parental
involvement in public schools, and as a
mainframe programmer. She is very excited to be
serving UUCC in this capacity since it has been
such an important part of her life for so many
years.

Maureen Harris, Youth Director
Maureen is a former high school social studies
teacher who has many years of experience with
youth empowerment and leadership training. She
has a bachelor’s degree in History
and Teacher Preparation from Princeton
University, and a master’s in Teacher Leadership
from Johns Hopkins University.
Upon her first trip to
UUCC, she knew immediately that she had found
her spiritual home.
In addition to serving as Youth Director,
Maureen is the Coordinator of the UU Legislative
Ministry of Maryland and the mother of two young
daughters who both participate in the UUCC RE
program.
Tom Monroe, Youth Choir Director
Tom is a general/vocal music teacher and choral
director in the Howard County Public School
System. Tom has a background in choral and
instrumental music, having experience with a
variety of ensembles in both. He teaches
privately and performs on saxophone, flute and
clarinet. Tom has a degree in Music Theory and
Composition from the University of Maryland and
is currently working toward a Master of Music
Education degree from Towson University.
