You may have some questions when searching for a spiritual
home. Here are questions often asked by newcomers.
When are your services?
From September through May,
UUCC has a two-service format, with Sunday worship at
9 a.m. and 11 a.m. During summer months, we worship at
10 a.m.
Where are you located?
We are located in Columbia,
Maryland, in the village of Owen Brown.
View driving directions.
What is the dress
code?
Members wear everything from
jeans and sneakers to traditional Sunday best.
May my child stay
with me during the service?
Yes, children are welcome.
However, religious education classes are also available
and, for very young children, a nursery is available.
Also, personal listening devices are available for those
with infants that need tending outside of the sanctuary.
Are Sunday school
classes available for my children?
Yes. We offer religious
education classes for children at both services. Classes
are designed to be hands-on, participatory and fun.

What is Unitiarian
Universalism? What do you believe?
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion -- that
is, a religion that keeps an open mind to the religious
questions people have struggled with in all times and
places. We believe that personal experience, conscience
and reason should be the final authorities in religion,
and that religious authority lies not in a single book
or person or institution, but in ourselves. We are a "non-creedal"
religion: we do not ask anyone to subscribe to a creed.
Rather, each member is encouraged to embark on a conscientious,
life-long quest for religious beliefs in which they come
to feel deeply they must believe. To find out more about
Unitarian Universalism, visit the Unitarian Universalist
Association web site at www.uua.org.
What are the expectations of membership?
Expectations of membership as adopted by the UUCC Board
in June 2006:
As members of UUCC, we will, to the best of our abilities
and according to the dictates of our consciences,
contribute to this congregation financially and with
our time and energy, attend services regularly and
otherwise participate in the life of this congregation,
and through this congregation, enrich ourselves spiritually.
How do I become a
member?
Becoming a member of our congregation
consists of signing the membership book in the presence
of the minister or a member of our board, thereby making
an explicit commitment to participate as a member of our
religious community, upholding UUCC's mission, sharing
your talents, your resources and your energy with others
in a life-long spiritual quest founded in Unitarian Universalist
religious values.
